phonetic is a trainer for the NATO phonetic alphabet, on this website and in the NATO Phonetic Alphabet Trainer app for iPhone and Android. It shows no ads, has no analytics and no trackers, and sells nothing to anyone.

Without an account

Everything you train stays on your device: in this browser's storage, or in the app. Nothing about you is sent to us.

With an account

An account keeps your progress and settings on every device. We keep your email address, your password (only as an Argon2id hash), your settings, and your rounds: when you trained, and which letters you got right. The emails that confirm your address or reset your password are sent through Resend. The service runs on our own server in Nuremberg, Germany, and its technical logs are kept for seven days.

Speaking your answers

In the app, what you say is turned into text by your phone's own speech recognition (Apple's or Google's), under their privacy terms; the app never sends a recording to us. On this website it is your browser's recogniser, or, if you are signed in and choose it, our server, which passes the recording to OpenAI to be transcribed and keeps nothing of it.

Deleting it

Resetting your progress deletes every round. Deleting your account (in the app: Settings, then Delete account) deletes the account and everything kept with it, on every device, straight away.
